BIG DOG & puppy Poop Scoop is a unique company offering a unique service. Owner Calvin Cahee, III has been an environmental advocate just about all his life. His Mom first introduced him to the industrial vacuum truck industry while partnering Coastal Environmental Company along the Gulf Coast from the early 80’s to the mid 90’s. Through chemical waste removal opened the door for their asbestos/lead abatement department. They completed many successful abatement contracts for Texas City ISD, Ft.Bend ISD, Amoco Oil (BP),North Forest ISD, TX A&M University, Lamar University, Texas Southern University, Prairie View A&M University, Stapleton Airport(Denver, Co.), Maryland Club Coffee Co., UTMB, Exxon-Mobile Corporate(Houston),University of Houston, and many other successful commercial, residential, and non-profit projects.
Calvin initially envisioned the need for the services of BIG DOG & puppy Poop Scoop many years ago while attending the University of Wyoming in Laramie, Wyoming.
From an environmental perspective, he wondered how it would feel to have to drudge and side-step fecal waste as does a dog in his/her own backyard. A thought that struck after a prank in one of the dorm rooms went terribly wrong. Since then, he’s noticed problems on commercial properties, school lawns, playgrounds, beachfronts, city and county parks, and has heard complaints from various tenants in multiple apartment communities regarding flies and unscooped foul smelling poop throughout Galveston County and surrounding areas.
Calvin noticed a greater health risk when he researched that dog excrement had an even more severe impact on children due to weaker immune systems, and that they always had the natural instinct to touch and taste. Dog excrement also impacts ground soil, pregnant Mom’s-to-be, and storm drains which filter into larger bodies of water subjecting it to contamination if not properly and timely disposed of. We love the need for a nice hard rain, but it also agitates the fecal coliform bacterias in dog poop and other animal waste known as run-off that which degrades our water quality.

Far from Fertilizer
Woof-woof waste is far from being a good fertilizer make. It is actually toxic to your lawn, causing burns and unsightly discoloring.
Beyond your grass, it has been estimated that a single gram of dog waste can contain 23 million fecal coliform bacteria, which are known to cause cramps, diarrhea, intestinal illness, and serious kidney disorders in humans. EPA even estimates that two or three days’ worth of droppings from a population of about 100 dogs would contribute enough bacteria to temporarily close a bay, and all watershed areas within 20 miles of it, to swimming and shell fishing.
Please stop referring to dog feces as fertilizer. Unless your furry friend is a vegetarian and eats its fair share of hay, its poop shouldn’t be referred to as legitimate fertilizer. I’ve even approached managers of commercial properties who even referred to their dog excrement problem as fertilizer. This fallacy has been believed by many for years-another reason I care to implement this particular service. S he was even adamant that her lawn service providers did a good job of spreading it. There was a noticeably ridiculous brown patch problem. Surprisingly, I noticed a fisherman on the far bank of their lake reeling in what I didn’t want to believe was family dinner.
I recently asked a dog owner of 2 what effects did dog waste have on the environment, she said she didn’t know other than the pet food scare. She assumed like so many that dog poop was great fertilizer for parks and the outdoors. I explained even with tainted pet food , you’re “dooing” the environment an injustice if you don’t pick up your pet’s waste. Think about it, if the foods contaminated, therefore, the feces definitely is. So, to label dog excrement as fertilizer is definitely a misconception.
